Iris is a middle-aged white South African socialite who always had the ability to blissfully ignore whatever might impede her happiness. But her life takes a dramatic turn when her finances dwindle, her husband John's tour of duty in Hong Kong ends, and the lavish parties are over. As John takes up another posting in Moscow and her son goes off to study in England, Iris transitions from being a wealthy expat wife to a single woman with a dog who lives in a small complex house in Pretoria. One day while walking her dog, Iris vanishes. John is sure that her disappearance is linked to an old political conspiracy concerning her father. In a race against time, John learns, however, that Iris' fate was long determined by an insidious revenge plot of a much more personal nature.
